In its Yearbook 2024 issue, UK-based Hifi News named Dr. John Plays Mac Rebennack as its audiophile album choice for the year.
The record, originally released in 1981, was reissued by Sundazed Music / Modern Harmonic in late 2023. Proudly pressed at Citizen Vinyl, the expanded edition features unheard Mac from the legendary sessions, liner notes by original album producer Jack Heyrman, and was cut by Kevin Gray at Cohearent Audio and released on Sundazed Music.
“The tracks were recorded on Levinson equipment, including a modified Studer deck,” writes Hifi News. “The resultant sound was that of one of the most realistic, vivid piano sessions ever committed to disc.”
