Citizen Studios is thrilled to welcome composer, musician, filmmaker, and multi-instrumentalist Kramer as our newest producer in residence. Kramer is the founder of the label Shimmy-Disc. In the 1980s & 90s, he produced hundreds of recordings at his Noise New York and Noise New Jersey studios. As a producer, he helped to create seminal recordings for artists as diverse as Daniel Johnston, Galaxie 500, Half Japanese, Pussy Galore, Urge Overkill, Will Oldham, and LOW, to name but a small few. He lives and works in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina.
Kramer will be performing with Squanderers (with composer, guitarist, pianist, and vocalist David Grubbs; and guitarist Wendy Eisenberg) at Big Ears Festival. Around that time, Kramer will work on a new project with his Squanders collaborators at Citizen Studios. Check out their album HERE.
Meet Kramer at an upcoming benefit for mental health awareness. Shimmy-Disc presents a Celebration of the Life & Songs of DANIEL JOHNSTON on January 22 at Citizen Vinyl. Doors at 7 p.m., music at 8 p.m. $20 tickets or pay what you can at the door.
This event, held on “Hi How Are You” Day (Daniel’s Birthday) features JD PINKUS, LO WOLF, DRUNKEN PRAYER, NATE HALL, CHAINER MULKEY, and KRAMER — plus special surprise guests — each playing a short set of their favorite Daniel Johnston songs.
Join us for a Mental Health Awareness Benefit for Asheville’s All Souls Counseling. You can also donate directly to the HI HOW ARE YOU? Project HERE.
