AshevilleFM is pleased to announce the upcoming release of our second compilation LP, Real People Great Radio Vol 2, this year in collaboration with Citizen Vinyl!
Join us for a Record Release & Listening Party at Citizen Vinyl on Thursday, December 14, doors at 6 p.m. and show at 7 p.m. Many of the featured artists will perform. Free!
Featuring ten local bands and artists, the collection spans multiple genres and community voices. Real People … Vol 2 focuses specifically on artists who live and work locally, whether in the music industry or in other areas of the labor force, who keep the region vibrant, and thriving.
“Throw an onion ten feet in any direction in Asheville and you’ll hit an artist,” notes Bill Donovan, AshevilleFM’s Music Director. “But they’re also probably someone who supports their art by working in the retail or service industries, tourism, or any number of occupations. This is our way of supporting the folks who keep us going, and who create excellent music that resonates far beyond the Blue Ridge Mountains.”
“We’re fortunate to have such breadth and depth in our local music scene,” Gar Ragland, founder and CEO of Citizen Vinyl, observes. “This record shines as an accurate and engaging representation of Asheville’s eclectic music community.” Several of the artists recorded new compositions at Citizen Vinyl’s studios, exclusively for the compilation.
From hip-hop to country waltz, punk rock to folk, experimental sounds to indie pop and grindcore, Real People Great Radio Vol 2 is a small sample of the diverse intersections of music and community in our area. AshevilleFM’s mission to broadcast underrepresented voices echoes throughout the compilation, and in the future AshevilleFM hopes to continue providing more safe spaces for folks to volunteer and have their voices heard.
Citizen Vinyl is hosting an official Release Party on Thursday, December 14, at their headquarters in downtown Asheville at 14 O’Henry Avenue. Doors at 6pm, music starts at 7. Many of the featured artists will perform, so mark your calendars!
Pre-orders for Real People, Great Radio Vol 2, both vinyl LP and digital media, are now available on 1033ashevillefm.bandcamp.com, and physical copies will be available at local record stores after December 15, 2023.
