Newspaper presses once ran all day in this building - and now that same spirit of production is back with presses made for creating vinyl records. Our ground floor facility will be on full view to visitors as they have an americano, an evening dinner & drink, or as they shop for records. But it's not all just show. We have assembled a cutting-edge and very nimble system for working on all types of projects within our walls.
Our first record press is the LiteTone, an exquisite semi-automatic 10,000-pound beauty manufactured by Viryl Technologies in Canada. Viryl is one of only two companies worldwide currently making new, state-of-the-art record presses. Citizen Vinyl chose the LiteTone because it is ideally suited for both high output and custom runs. While the process of vinyl record-making hasn’t changed much over the years, the precise engineering of the LiteTone will help us meet critical manufacturing goals---namely, to minimize long turnaround times, to reduce expenses in small production runs, to eliminate the defects that plague much vinyl pressing, and to ensure that each and every disc sounds great.
From the outset Citizen Vinyl wanted to make sure we could serve the vibrant local and regional music community here in Western North Carolina. Many artists here might only need a few hundred discs at a time and they need them at an affordable rate. The LiteTone press, with its 27-35 second cycle times and quick changing stamper mechanism (5 minute turnarounds!), will allow us to meet these goals efficiently. Also, the LiteTone is ideal for that more “artistic” custom work that gets vinyl fans excited. We’re talking colored vinyl, picture discs, and splatter vinyl, all available in a variety of vinyl weights and sizes. In short, you combine modern technology with Citizen Vinyl’s extensive audio engineering expertise and the results are beautiful looking and superb sounding records made to last many lifetimes.
