Cary and Bayla play old-time music with harmony vocals, ranging from fast barnburners to soulful ballads, with banjo, guitar, and some fiddle. Cary has been playing and singing around WNC for 25 years, and toured with the Freight Hoppers old-time band in the 1990’s. Bayla is an award winning 16 year-old rising banjo star from Leicester, NC, who has been featured at IBMA, Merlefest, played with Bela Fleck, and won 1st place at the Galax Fiddlers Convention this past summer.
Cary was Bayla’s first teacher through the JAM program in Black Mountain, and the two recently reunited through a Fine Tuned Mentorship that was sponsored by Blue Ridge Music Trails. After a year of recording and playing gigs with Fine Tuned, Cary and Bayla are now playing shows together to continue their musical collaboration.
