Join us for the next installment of our Classical Sunday Music Series — August 27, 11 a.m. Free.
Session Café will be serving brunch (check out our weekly special!), coffee drinks, cocktails, and mocktails. Enjoy two solo sets by cellists Amanda Durst and Franklin Keel
Amanda Durst has made her mark as an orchestral cellist, collaborative musician, engaging teacher, and dedicated arts administrator. Her blossoming career has taken her from the shores of Maryland’s St. Mary’s River to the cathedrals of Alba, Italy, where she has enjoyed success playing both chamber and orchestral music. Since moving to Asheville in 2018 she has established herself as an orchestral and chamber musician, and in her solo work has focused on performing the music of underrepresented composers. When she is not performing she serves as Assistant Director of MusicWorks Asheville, an El Sistema-inspired after-school music program at Leicester Elementary.
Franklin Keel (BM – Eastman School of Music) is the Associate Principal Cello of the Asheville Symphony Orchestra, founding cellist of the Opal String Quartet, and cellist/singer/songwriter for Upland Drive and Sirius.B. He performs actively in a variety of musical settings all over the Western North Carolina region, appearing as a soloist with the Asheville Symphony, the Hendersonville Symphony, the Brevard Philharmonic, and the Blue Ridge Orchestras. Also a passionate educator, Mr. Keel teaches String Orchestra at Asheville Middle and High School and is the strings coach for the Asheville Symphony Youth Orchestra.
